Sort it before you book
Tap what you are throwing. Anything that would re-grade the bin gets sent to the right one.
Building waste is the one grade that takes a bit of everything off a site, so it is the safe default for a renovation. Two things to flag at booking: plasterboard, so the bin is graded right the first time, and treated or painted timber. Asbestos never goes in any bin.
Sizes and allowances
Building waste is the densest grade we run, so it reaches the weight allowance soonest. A bathroom starts at 3m³, a kitchen at 4m³, a site clean-up at 6m³.
Over the allowance, building waste is charged at $330 per tonne, charged up to a capped rate. Bins fill to the top rail and no higher.

Where it goes
Most of a builders load comes back to our own sorting area before anything reaches landfill. Timber is separated and sent for recycling, plasterboard goes to a local farm program to be composted, metal goes to the recyclers, and concrete and masonry are crushed into road base. What is genuinely mixed goes to licensed landfill.

A stripped kitchen takes up far more room than it looks like it will. Carcasses, doors and the old splashback are mostly air, and they fill a bin fast.
Heads upClear the pantry and the fridge before the bin arrives. No bin takes food scraps, whatever grade it's booked as. The old fridge, dishwasher and oven are fine and go in as general waste.
A vanity and a screen fit the 3m³. If the bath, the wall tiles and the floor are all coming out, take the 4m³.
Heads upThis is one of the heaviest jobs for its size. Tiles, render and the old bath add up fast, and it's booked as building waste, where excess is $330 per tonne up to a capped rate. Ceramic tiles can't go in a concrete bin.
Decking boards, posts and palings. Timber is light for its bulk, so the bin fills on space rather than weight.
Heads upTreated, painted and structural timber is building waste, not green waste, even though it came out of the garden. Booking a green waste bin and filling it with decking re-grades the load at the weighbridge.

Yes. Building waste has its own weight allowance for every bin size and its own excess rate, both shown above. It is denser than household or general waste, so it reaches the allowance sooner. Ask us about two bins if part of the load is a single material, because a clean load is processed at the lower rate.

Bricks and concrete are on the list, so offcuts and a few pavers are fine. A whole slab or driveway is a concrete bin job: a smaller bin, its own allowance, and the concrete is crushed into road base rather than landfilled.
