Tap what you are throwing. Anything that would re-grade the bin gets sent to the right one.
Clean fill is soil with no organic matter and no large rocks. One stick of timber in the load and it is no longer clean fill, it is a mixed load at the mixed rate.
Sizes and allowances
How much fits in.
Soil is heavy waste, so the small bins are the right ones. A bigger bin does not get more in, it reaches the weight allowance with room to spare in the bin.
Weight over the allowance is charged per tonne at the rate on your quote. Bins fill to the top rail and no higher.

Where it goes
Reused as fill.
Clean soil and fill is reused as fill rather than dumped, which is why it has to arrive clean. Soil with rubbish through it cannot be reused and goes the expensive way instead.

Two materials, one bin.
Some jobs genuinely produce two materials. These bins take exactly two and nothing else, and they cost less than a mixed load.

Soil and clean fill questions.
Soil with no organic matter or large rocks. Topsoil, sand, gravel and excavated fill all qualify as long as nothing else is mixed through them. Turf, roots, timber, concrete and rubbish all take it out of the clean fill grade.
Same bin. Clean fill is the grade name for soil, sand and gravel with nothing else in it, and it travels on its own. That is why it is priced differently to a mixed load.
Soil is heavy waste, so the small bins are the right ones: 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³, soil only. The quick test is a bucket. Fill one, lift it, and if that is a struggle you are dealing with heavy waste, and the right bin is a small one.
In a Soil & Green Waste bin, yes. It comes in 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³ and takes soil and green waste only. Turf with the soil still on it is the usual reason to book one.
In a Soil & Concrete bin, yes, also 2m³ to 4m³ with nothing else in it. If most of the load is broken slab, a concrete bin on its own is the better fit.
