Sort it before you book
Tap what you are throwing. Anything that would re-grade the bin gets sent to the right one.
Keep it to vegetation and the bin is graded as green waste. Drop a single sack of household rubbish in with the clippings and the whole bin is re-graded at the weighbridge, so keep that sack out of it.
Sizes and allowances
Green waste is light and bulky, so it fills space long before it reaches the weight. Size up rather than down.
Over the allowance, green waste is charged at $90 per tonne, bins containing other waste incur additional charges. Bins fill to the top rail and no higher.

Where it goes
Kept on its own, green waste is one of the easiest wins. It is shredded and becomes mulch and compost instead of rotting in landfill. That only works if the load is vegetation and nothing else, which is why the sorter above matters.

Heads upVegetation is green waste. Sheet metal, fence palings, shade sails and damaged furniture are not. If the yard has both, ask us about two bins instead of one mixed load, because mixed grades are processed at the dearer rate.
2m³, 3m³, 4m³
Soil and green waste only, no other materials.
Green waste is organic garden material: weeds, trees, leaves, fronds, mulch, grass clippings, branches and hedge trimmings. It does not include building timber, soil, rocks or general household rubbish.
Green waste is processed at a lower rate than mixed waste, so keeping it separate is cheaper. Mixed grades of waste have to be processed at the more expensive rate, so a separate green waste bin and a separate general bin usually costs less than putting everything in one.
It is shredded and turned into mulch and compost rather than going to landfill.
It varies by bin size, from 400 kg on a 2m³ up to 1.8 tonne on a 9m³. Excess weight on green waste is charged at $90 per tonne including GST.
