Gardens in Far North Queensland do not slow down. Between the wet season, storm season and the general enthusiasm of anything tropical, green waste piles up here faster than almost anywhere else in the country.
Clear it before the storms, not after
Loose fronds, dead branches and stacked prunings become projectiles in a blow. It is far easier to book a bin in a quiet week than in the scramble after a warning is issued.
Keep green waste in its own bin
This is the part that saves real money. Excess weight on green waste is charged at just $90 per tonne including GST, against $330 per tonne for building waste and $395 for general and household.
What counts as green waste
Weeds, trees, leaves, fronds, mulch, grass clippings, branches and hedge trimmings. What does not go in: building timber, soil, rocks and concrete, or general household rubbish. Soil needs either a clean fill bin or one of our combined Soil & Green Waste bins.
How much fits
Green waste allowances run from 400 kg on a 2m³ bin, through 600 kg on a 3m³, 800 kg on a 4m³ and 1.2 tonne on a 6m³, up to 1.8 tonne on a 9m³.
Where it ends up
Everything we collect is shredded and turned into mulch and compost rather than going to landfill.
